Curzon House, Chester

Community Support Centre

Curzon House Community Support Centre owned by Cheshire West and Chester Council is a care home which generally caters for older people, people with physical difficulties and people with dementia on a short stay and respite basis, accommodating circa 38 residents. The home also operates as a day care centre for those with dementia and it is this area of the building which has been refurbished and extended.

The proposed extension has been designed to link directly on to the existing day care dining and activities room. The form and scale of the extension is sympathetic to the existing building, and designed, although with contemporary detailing, in a manner that will blend seamlessly with the existing design.

The extension formed an area of 73sqm of additional floor space and along with remodelling of the existing dementia day care space, provided the following:

- A refurbished day care lounge with additional seating capacity.
- Repositioned and refurbished Care Assistants office allowing for better surveillance.
- Additional dining and activities room capacity.
- A dedicated rehabilitation/assessment kitchen.
- Dedicated day care service user DDA toilets directly accessed within the unit.
- Improved access to the existing dementia day care garden.
- A secure external dementia garden with new dementia friendly boundary fence.
