Alsager School

Mobile Classroom Replacement

Alsager School is a Business and Enterprise College. In September 2009 Alsager School became a Foundation School as it joined the Alsager Community Trust.

This brief was to replace a dilapidated mobile classroom at the side of the school with a new classroom for the Textiles department.

The decision was made to locate the new classroom adjacent to the existing Textiles classroom. This allowed for a linked facility to be formed, and enabled the existing mobile to remain in use while the extension was being built.

The extension follows the contemporary architectural style introduced to the site with the construction of a new music facility, completed in September 2011.

The new room has direct access onto the hard play area. It also has a separate lobby to the rear, and can be used to access the new and existing textiles classrooms.

The orientation maximises the use of natural day light through large north-facing windows, while retaining a large amount of wall space for displays.

At the school’s request, all the M&E services have been left exposed at high level, to create an ‘industrial’ atmosphere to the room.
