Central Core Remodelling: Section 7

Section 7 is the final phase of the Central Core Remodelling Project, which was commissioned to address the problems experienced with the internal circulation of Helsby High School.

This phase of work was introduced late to the overall project, when Sections 1 and 2 were already on site. This necessitated strategic variations in the design, and additional management of the full operational capacity of the School, which had to be maintained.

Section 7 addressed the shortfall in specialist teaching accommodation, needed to support the influx of additional pupils from the closure of a nearby high school.

Section 7 comprises a two storey teaching block located adjacent to the main circulation route in the science courtyard housing two laboratories, IT rooms and staff offices.

The Central Core remodelling project was completed on programme in April 2009 with Section 7 completed on programme in August 2009.

Both the Central Core Remodelling Project and Section 7 underwent a full Breeam assessment within the context of the existing school, and scored a pass.
