Winsford HSC Primary School, Winsford

Refurbished Hall and Classroom Link

Winsford High Street Community Primary School, as it's name implies, is centrally located tight to the north side of the High Street. A principle arterial route which draws children from all areas of the town. By contrast, the rear of the site to the North, borders onto community playing fields and open grassland. The original single storey edwardian infant school building has been adapted and extended over the last hundred years or so.

The refurbishment, remodelling and integration with the adjacent vacant listed Chappell Building with a contrasting lightweight contemporary entrance link to it, has enabled the school to expand and enhance it's accommodation, whilst redressing an existing shortfall. It provides the school with an appropriately sized hall, allows the transfer of teaching from temporary to permanent accommodation, provides dedicated space for practical and discreet group teaching and learning, as well as additional space for ancillary and support activities.

When funds allow, dining and kitchen facilities will be addressed as a future phase. In addition, a performance art facility has been brought back into use for school use together with external groups. The development has improved the acoustics of the hall and performance spaces together with the classrooms. Externally the project resolved the staff parking and provided a new MUGA.
