Private and Social Residential Development

In the closing years of the twentieth century Chester has seen a demand for city living which promises to more than match the targets currently being set by government. We have designed a scheme of over two hundred apartments for Bellway Homes on land surrounding a listed Lead Shot Tower (one of only four built).

The scheme is at the heart of the Boughton Canal Corridor Development Area and will be central to establishing the character and vitality of this new mixed-use quarter. A key challenge has been to marry together a variety of scales of building and evolve an appropriate infrastructure to accommodate high density living, extensive office space and central leisure facilities.

Set alongside the canal, and to the rear of the site, the private housing comprises one bed, two bed and duplex apartments, constructed in timber frame, with a brick skin. The social housing is located between the new four and five storey private blocks and the existing rows of Victorian terraces. It comprises two storey town houses, and one and two bed apartments, all in traditional construction.

This scheme was a repeat commission for Bellway Homes, and for Muir Group Housing Association.
