The Old Port of Chester

Urban Regeneration

Initiatives to redevelop the Old Port arose out of the Masterplan, prepared in 1995/96. The SRB funding secured by Chester City Council enabled the realising of the mixed use scheme, marking one of the key gateways into the City and the entrance to The Old Port of Chester.

Redevelopment has involved the local community and a new local forum has emerged with The Old Port becoming, for the first time, an identifiable neighbourhood.

The scheme includes a youth opportunities ‘Foyer’, general needs housing, small shop units, a café, private housing, canalside improvements and most recently, and strikingly, a new community facility which visually acknowledges the maritime heritage.
